Key Points About the CLC Local License

Production Limits

The Collegiate Licensing Company Local License limits the total amount of units you can produce and sell in one year. The total amount of units you are permitted to sell is discussed and decided upon during the application process.

Typically, a seller that holds a Local License intends to produce and sell fewer than 2,000 units of a particular item in one year. Sellers planning to produce and sell more than 2,000 units should apply for the Standard License.

Royalty Payment

The Local License differs from the Standard License in that you pay your royalties upfront instead of paying per unit every business quarter. Once approved, you pay a single upfront fee for all the selling you will do throughout the year. The fee can vary but expect a minimum of $250.

Sales Channels

The Local License typically limits where and how you can sell your product. It is intended for somewhat local channels only. Check with the Collegiate Licensing Company and the specific school to see if they permit selling through online platforms such as Etsy.
