Ohio State Trademark Licensing

The Ohio State University Office of Trademark & Licensing Services is an independent licensing program that regulates, promotes, and protects the university’s name and identifying marks on and off campus. It was established in 1982. Ohio State has registered its marks in Ohio and the United States since 1974 and continues to register marks overseas.

Its purpose is to control commercial use of the Ohio State brand on products and services, promotions, advertising, sponsorships, and affinity programs, and to enforce the brand. Royalties from the licensing program fund student scholarships. Official products must carry a security hologram label or hangtag.

Anyone who wants to make or sell items with Ohio State marks needs a license.
