University of Tennessee Trademark Licensing

The University of Tennessee trademark licensing program was established in 1983. It protects UT names, logos, slogans, insignias, symbols, and mascots. Those marks are protected by federal and state law, and any use is prohibited unless UT authorizes it.

The program sets standards for commercial use, identifies official licensed products, and checks that goods fit the university’s status as a leading public institution. It also lets UT share in the commercial value of its marks. Proceeds support the university’s academic mission. The program is run by the UT System Division of Communications and Marketing and the General Counsel, in partnership with Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC).

Anyone who wants to make or sell items with UT marks needs a license.
