USC Trademark Licensing

The University of Southern California Office of Trademarks & Licensing Services manages the school’s name, logos, and related marks. Created in 1976, it was one of the first collegiate licensing programs in the country.

Its purpose is to protect USC’s reputation, control who may put university marks on products, and share in the commercial value of those marks. Licensed merchandise must reflect well on the university. Funds from licensing help support student scholarships and athletic programs. The office also helps campus departments with trademark questions and works with university counsel on registrations.

Anyone who wants to make or sell items with USC marks needs permission through a license.
